Portrait of a Learner

Letcher County Public Schools developed our Portrait of a Learner through a collaborative process that included input from educators, families, students, and community members. It reflects a shared vision for preparing our students with the skills and dispositions they need to succeed while staying connected to the values of our community. This Portrait guides our work in creating vibrant, meaningful learning experiences that are relevant, engaging, and rooted in real-world opportunities for our students.

LCPS Innovation Fair Showcases Student Learning in Action

Letcher County Public Schools’ first annual Innovation Fair brought student learning to life at Letcher County Central High School, featuring more than 25 student groups from across the district. From robotics and coding to engineering, media production, and community projects, students demonstrated creativity, problem-solving, and real-world skills. Highlights included the JROTC Drone Club’s interactive demonstrations and a student-built Tiny House from the Area Technology Center. Open to students in grades 3–12 and the community, the event celebrated LCPS’s Portrait of a Learner and showcased students as innovative thinkers, skilled communicators, and engaged citizens.
